A curated list of the essentials in some top categories and, when possible, where to source them.
It can get a little warm here, as you might have heard. It helps to cover your head and you can find some fine selections at Meyer the Hatter, located in the CBD or Goorin Bros., which can be found in both the French Quarter and Uptown on Magazine St. We’re partial to Panama hats ourselves but there’s something to be said for something a little more waterproof too. We’ve had good luck with this for the sun and tend to wear this for the rain
One of the great things about our city is that you can be as weird as you want to be without a second look. If you’re feeling a little more formal though, the place to go is Rubenstein’s for a quality suit in the heart of the CBD. If you’re looking for something distinctly regional, you’ll find it at Perlis, purveyors of everything from seersucker to Mardi Gras rugby shirts. Their distinctive crawfish logo will be recognized by those of fine breeding anywhere you go. Shockingly, you’ll find them Uptown (and there’s an excellent tailor upstairs). We’ve also had a good experience with the BrooksCool suit from Brooks Brothers, which isn’t a local brand but it’s a good weight for summer weather and their staff on Canal Street are diligent and professional.
